Tonight!

Do I watch the royal majesty of the BAFTAs (The British version of the Oscars) or the perennial perpetual shit-fest that is the Grammys?

Hm, I wonder.

WASHINGTON -- The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian is putting its 800,000-object collection online.

The museum plans to launch the first phase of the project Monday, beginning with 5,500 items and photographs. The project is part of the museum's regular Web site.

Officials say the digital showcase will allow people living far away from the museum's three locations in Washington and New York to view its archives.

Museum director Kevin Gover says the project also is geared toward American Indians who may not be able to afford to travel to the museum's locations but have access to the Internet and satellite technology.

Currently, the museum can barely display 1 percent of its collection at its locations.

Officials say it will take about four years to put all of its objects on the Web site.

The Last Flight of Lwaxana Troi

Celestis Inc., a company that specializes in "memorial spaceflights," said Monday that it will ship the remains of Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett Roddenberry into space next year.

The couple's cremated remains will be sealed into specially made capsules designed to withstand the rigors of space travel. A rocket-launched spacecraft will carry the capsules, along with digitized tributes from fans. The Roddenberrys' remains — and the spacecraft — will travel ever deeper into space and will not return to earth, company spokeswoman Susan Schonfeld said.

After Gene Roddenberry died in 1991, his wife commissioned Celestis to launch a part of his remains into space in 1997. She died Dec. 18, 2008.

This is made of win.

So there you have it, world.

American history has just been made. Good luck to you, Mr. Obama.

I just wish that I didn't cringe still every time someone mentions equality.

It's no secret that I love PBS. Take Masterpiece Theatre and, more relevant to this posting, its cousin, Masterpiece Classic. Which has introduced me to some wonderful Victorian tales that i might have ordinarily or once-a-time shunned. Like tonight with Wuthering Heights. Those Bronte bitches was crazy, yo.

As I was watching it, I kept singing "Heathclifee it's me i'm Kathy I've come home" in my head. Cue up the KaTe Bush music!

Conundra. Quandary. Dilemma, even.

In order to install Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir on my PC, I had to uninstall City of Heroes. Funny thing was, I timed it perfectly for the day before my monthly sub renewed, so I dropped the game temporarily. I've dropped CoH umpteen times and always return. But with both Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria and NWN2 installed, I only had aboot 3 G of space left on my hard drive. Ouch! Plus I had fucked-up iTunes by deleteing Quicktime to make room for games. (I had already moved around some of the, er, ".avi files" that took up a good chunk of space on drive C to the back-up D - stow it, pervs, you know you have them, too.) I could have freed up a lot more space by delteing some .mp3s, of which I have many, many, many, but I'm touchy aboot my music, even if it's music I don't listen to hardly ever.

So, today I went ahead and uninstalled LoTRO. I don't feel too bad. becuas with my lifetime subscription I can just jump back into it whenever. I'll just have to let it run all night to update up-to-date (twat a concept!). Good thing Mines of Moria just came out and I have an actual DVD-rom for it. That fucker took up just over a full fourth of my disk space. So with it gone, I can torrent ".avi files" again, and there's some good ones, too.

So while I take a much-needed MMO hiatus, I have other games to play. NWN2 is lots of fun, but the problem I always have with D&D games is that I never can decide on what party make-up I want to use. I've restarted the beginning scenes about 10 times already trying to decide on what classes to use. I never did use the Half-Orc lesbian Barbarian (Yrsula Stonecunt), but there's always the second play-thru. I think it's likely to be Ranger, Cleric (a 78 year old woman), Sorcerer and Rogue. Unless I start again. But now that I have disk space, maybe I'll have 2 games. Until Knights of the Ol Republic arrives. Speaking of Star Wars, The Force Unleashed is definately fun. The Force from the Dark Side. The only drawback is that I tend not to be very good at those style of games, but we shall see.

I've only played a little bit of Persona 4. I got up to the first day at the new school. Not very far I know, but as soon as I finish typing this, I'm back in. It might be a bit too Japanese for my usual taste, but it looks fun.

Wow, this post contains a tremendous, tremendous amount of geekdorkery. Can you see the big L on my forehead from there?

Personaforce Nights of the Old Republic

I need to have meself committed. As a painstakingly obvious retail obsessive. I got a bug up me bum tonight to go on a spree. A gaming spree. I had posted earlier about wanting to play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and of being in possession of a Volde*Mart gift card. So after dinner I made an adventure. Went to GameStop first, where I picked up Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir, a Baldur's Gate-style expansion for Neverwinter NIghts, one of the best computer RPGs ever.

Then I went to Voldie to go PlayStation 2 shopping using the g.c. I ended up getting Star Wars: Force Unleashed because the evil Sith apprentice looked hot. Volde*Mart didn't have Persona 4 (I blame [info]alessar and [info]tygerversionx for this!), so I ended up going back over to WhoreStop, where I saw someone I know (dealer) whom I didn't acknowledge. I'm like that.

OH! And I saw that there was Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories which I guess takes place betwixt KHI & II? Anyone?

Then I came home and ordered Star Wars: Best of the PC from Amazon which includes Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and some other games. I also the last Heather Dale cd I needed to complete her catalogue. Not bad for a day's damage (earlier today I had also gone to the comic shoppe for Buffy).

Now I have to delete a lot of porn rearrange some files to make room on the drive for NWN.

All this PLUS Yvette Fielding time in t-minus 10 and counting!

I need opinions: Anyone ever played the PC version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? I've still got this $25 Volde*mart gift card burning a hole in my wallet and want something PS-y or PC-y to spend it on.

The Neverwood

does the walker choose the path
“The Neverwood”

Don’t wander near the neverwood
When you are on your own –
The trees they are duplicitous,
The paths are overgrown.

The moon can’t part the canopy,
The stars won’t shine therein.
Whatever passes those old trees
Won’t come back out again.

The oldest forest in the world,
Never touched by human hands.
They say that if you cross its verge
You’ll go to faerieland.

There’s nothing in the neverwood
Except what can never be,
What never was and never will
Also cross its boundaries.

Don’t wander near the neverwood,
Keep to the road that leads to town.
Should you got lost in the neverwood
You never would be found.

In other news, if anyone in, say, the Florida keys/Texas/California/other warm places needs a house guest, just let me know. This arctic shit is whack.

When the Weeping Willow Cries

  • Jan. 13th, 2009 at 1:13 AM
Lady of Shallott
“When the Weeping Willow Cries”

Jeanvieve was a Creole lass
Who lived in Nawlinstown.
Her hair it was as black as night,
Her skin a creamy brown.

Jeanvieve loved a river lad,
A handsome boy and strong.
He worked aboard a cargo boat
And would be gone days long.

Jeanvieve used to wait for him
Beneath the willow tree,
Just waiting for her river lad
To return to New Orleans.

But then the rain began to fall,
The river swelled its banks.
Jeanvieve lost her river lad,
His cargo boat had sank.

Jeanvieve left the French Quarter,
To the bayou she did go
To seek the ancient wisdom of
The voodoo queen Marie Leveau.

“Mámá I’ve lost my river lad
Beneath the rising water,
Please, don’t you have some remedy
To soothe your weeping daughter?”

Marie Leveau gave her a charm,
A little brown acorn.
“Jeanvieve you must eat this fruit
And no more shall you mourn.”

Jeanvieve left Marie Leveau,
She went back to the river.
No sooner had she ate the nut
When she began to shiver.

Jeanvieve fell down to the bank,
Jeanvieve fell down dead,
And from her grave there swiftly grew
A weeping willow overhead.

And when the weeping willow cries
It cries with Jeanvieve’s tears.
And still the weeping willow cries
After all these passing years.

Phyllis got new tires today. Necessaire, because the old ones were technically illegal, and the old girl needs inpsection by end of the month. Good timing, too, because there is major snow action here.

Got stuck at work for an extra hour because the night girl got stuck in her driveway, so I did manage to see the Liza Minelli guest-spot on SNL. Damn those gay priorities. And despite the snow, I made my ride home an adventure, instead. I had a gay old time. I blame Liza.

Golden GLobes tomorrow!!!!

So its officially my favourite time of year, Award Show Season!!!!!

I'd be a little more excited if I didn't think it was going to be a total Heath Ledger/Dark Knight fuck-fest, but oh, well.

Glamour!

EDIT: And I still can't look at Anne Hathaway without seeing her Brokeback Mountain titties terrifying me.

Yesterday (Sunday) was terrible. I shat the morning away and was in bed for the rest. The thought of food was repugnant, and I didn't eat. Watched some of Planet Earth, and went back to bed.

Today (Monday) I made it though my shift at work and ate a little. I watched a series on PBS all about the history of India. Fascinating. There's so much of the world I know so little about.
